Volunteer to Make a Difference in the Life of a Child
Mark Your Calendar: July is National “Make a Difference in Children” Month!
This month is dedicated and devoted to making a difference in the lives of children. It’s an amazing grassroots initiative sponsored by long-time advocate, Kim Ratz, with the intention to bring awareness to how our actions can hatch a positive effect on children. It takes just one person to make a life-changing impact. Imagine what we can do across the masses!
GiveAssist
Do you need ideas on what actions and volunteer activities you can join in an effort to support this campaign? GetAssist is the perfect platform to reach out, share ideas, experiences, create opportunities and to simply spread the word during ‘National Make a Difference to Children’ month.
We’ve also compiled five of our own ideas on what you can do to support this movement—and to make a genuine difference in the lives of our community’s children:
- Volunteer at your local YMCA or Parks and Recreation Center. These environments are geared to foster a community space intended to develop healthy body, mind and spirit practice. It’s an ideal atmosphere to help children overcome whatever obstacles they may be facing.
- Support a local organization that serves children, whether it is helping out during Sunday school at your local church, or at a center that maybe needs school supplies.
- Volunteer at a children’s hospital by reading to the children or simply spending time with them sitting in a garden or in the game room.
- Become a tutor with the local elementary school. The benefits a child receives from a caring, attentive tutor doesn’t end when school ends; it continues on well into adulthood.
- Communicate with your local elected officials concerning children’s initiatives – education, health care and safety are issues that need passionate advocates all year long.
Daily Opportunities
There are limitless ways adults can get involved without going absolutely out their way to reorganize their daily lives.
Look for daily opportunities to build kids up. They can never receive too much positive feedback or encouragement. Make eye contact and smile. Imagine how you feel when a friend or coworker—or even a stranger on the street—smiles and says a kind word. It sets the tone for your day, not to mention, we bet it garners an automatic smile in return. And if you don’t have time to volunteer, there are many organizations that will appreciate and benefit from monetary donations.
Get involved. Reach out. If you haven’t already, join GetAssist today and begin networking with people that are just as passionate as you are about making a difference. Even though July is dedicated to this cause, you can make a difference any day, any month, every day, and every month.
